The Co-Generation Engineer position will be required to perform some preventive maintenance on plant equipment. In detail, please describe your experience preforming preventive or corrective maintenance on plant equipment or industrial machinery such as: Boilers, Chillers, Pumps, Compressors, Stream Traps and Valves.

Campus Planning and Facilities Management (CPFM) is a vibrant department, which comprises five units, and approximately 270 employees: Facilities Services, Utilities & Energy, Campus Planning, Office of Sustainability, and Design & Construction. Utilities and Energy (U&E) provides Steam, Chilled Water, Electricity, and other district energy services for the University of Oregon. The Utilities and Energy Department is comprised of specialized and diverse staff including Electrical technicians, Co-Generation Engineers, Maintenance technicians, and administrative staff. The Utilities and Energy staff work 24 hours a day to ensure safe, reliable, and energy efficient utilities are delivered to the University of Oregon. The department is responsible for all aspects of operations, maintenance, and repairs of the campus utility systems including a 10MW Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant, 6.5MW emergency power generation, production and distribution of campus heating steam using two industrial natural gas fired boilers, production and distribution of electrical power, 7,500 ton chilled water plant and distribution system, compressed air, and other services to more than 80 buildings and over 4 miles of distribution tunnels. The department works closely with other campus departments from across different business units to ensure effective operations, avoid unsafe conditions, and mitigate service interruptions in all utility functions.

The primary responsibility for a Co-Generation Engineer will be to operate the Steam and Chiller Plant operations during Co-generation mode independently while the plant is generating power. The main areas of responsibility include operations, maintenance, administration and coordination. They will operate all equipment associated with the Utilities and Energy Chiller Plant. Chiller Plant includes; five 1500 ton centrifugal chillers, 12 cooling towers, 7 campus distribution pumps and all support equipment. They will assist in the repair, planning, and troubleshooting of maintenance of all plant equipment and machinery. Additionally, they will perform inspections and respond to emergency calls. The position will also coordinate startups, shut downs and the operations of plant equipment.
Interactions/contacts occur daily with the campus community in the course of performing work and responding to emergencies. This position will also interact with electrical and maintenance staff with in the Utilities and Energy Department on a daily bases. Position will also be in contact with outside contractors, vendors and federal agencies (LRAPA and DEQ).
Position works as a member of a team while frequently performing tasks independently. Decision made by this position effects the entire University. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining a continuous flow of electricity, steam, chilled water and other utilities to the University in normal and emergency situations. Additional job-related decisions making includes: when to start or stop equipment, interpret equipment data and apply corrective actions.
Work is reviewed regularly by the supervisor to ensure it is performed efficiently, safely, and meets both expectations and applicable requirements. A performance appraisal is conducted annually.
Must work with in the Federal, State, local and the University of Oregon rules and regulations. Must maintain compliance with permits, regulations and perform duties in a safe manner. Must have valid Oregon driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within two months.
Must be able to work nonstandard shifts and overtime. This position is classified as essential personnel.
This unit may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.
• Completed Boiler and Turbine Operator apprenticeship or equivalent combination of education and experience to include knowledge of turbine generators, centrifugal absorption chillers, high pressure boilers and related technical systems involving electrical, steam, and refrigeration.
• Position requires valid Oregon driver's license and acceptable driving record.

• Experience with the operation and maintenance of power generation equipment IE: Steam Turbines, Gas Turbines and Diesel Generators.
• Experience with the operation and maintenance of boilers.

• Familiar with using Wonder ware, Carrier IVU, Siemens and PME software.
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
