POSITION: Development Director, Dig Pink

LOCATION: Greater Philadelphia Area, PA

SALARY:  $65,000 - $75,000

HOURS: Full-time (40 Hours Per Week)


The Side-Out Foundation (SOF) has an excellent opportunity for a Development Director in our PA/ Northeast Region. The position is Home Office based within the Greater Philadelphia, PA area. You will work directly with schools, universities, and volleyball-affiliated teams, clubs, and organizations in PA and the Northeast. Under the direction of the Vice President of Engagement Programs; the Development Director is responsible for applying proven community-building skills and sales techniques to achieve revenue and program goals by acquiring new accounts and renewing and growing existing accounts related to university, club, and school fundraising and development.

About Us: 

The Side-Out Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was established in 2004 to make a significant and identifiable impact on the lives of metastatic breast cancer patients and their families. The organization takes an innovative approach using precision medicine to provide solutions for those with metastatic breast cancer, specifically, with the goal of becoming a source of hope for all those living with breast cancer in search of answers and treatment options. Through our educational and community-driven programs Dig Pink® and the Ambassador Program, we engage a new generation of young people in advocacy and leadership development. 


  • Recruitment and cultivation of school/ university/ club volunteers in assigned territory for Dig Pink and Ambassador Program market partnership with the Side-Out Foundation

  • Supports development and implementation of winning strategies and plans to meet organizational mission and fundraising goals. 

  • Responsible for account management and Side-Out Foundation cause promotion in existing and potential accounts within the high school, university, and volleyball club market.

  • Recruit, train, and develop coaches, student-athletes, and volunteers at multiple levels throughout assigned schools, universities, and clubs.

  • Cultivates and grows relationships with coaches, teachers, staff, and administrators within assigned territory schools, school districts, and volleyball clubs and organizations.

  • Year-round territory and portfolio management that successfully stewards volunteers, donors, and mission partners to achieve mission goals. 

  • Effective anticipation of volunteer needs and problem-solving that will include daily phone activity, meeting scheduling, innovative thinking, and consistent follow-up. 

  • Ability to travel daily -up to 75%. Includes ability and willingness to accomplish high levels of travel within assigned territory. Can visit 5-10 accounts daily.

  • Attends conferences and/ or events to build community and drive results.

  • Attends virtual and in-person meetings and training as mandated or approved by the Vice President of Engagement Programs.

  • Very limited overnight travel as pre-planned and aligned on with the Vice President of Engagement Programs. 

Essential Job Duties:

  • Responsibilities include the recruitment and cultivation of school/university, volleyball club volunteers in assigned territory for Dig Pink, and Ambassador Program partnership with the Side-Out Foundation.

  • Responsible for the account management and Side-Out Foundation cause promotion in existing accounts and within the high school, university, and volleyball club market.

  • Recruit, train, and develop volunteers at multiple levels throughout the universities, volleyball clubs, schools, and school districts to achieve revenue goals.

  • Supports the development of and implementation of an annual territory plan with recruitment, retention, and revenue goals, including securing sponsorships and donations.

  • Schedule and visit 5-10 Dig Pink teams/ team leads daily.

  • Attends Dig Pink and Ambassador Program events as needed.

  • Attends virtual and in-person meetings and training mandated or approved by the Vice President of Engagement Programs.

  • Very limited overnight travel as pre-planned and aligned on with the Vice President of Engagement Programs. 

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds with the expectation that items in excess of 20 pounds would be broken down into smaller components or additional assistance is required before lifting and/or moving.

Qualifications and Skills:

Experience we require:

  • Includes ability and willingness to accomplish high levels of travel within assigned territory.

  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to maintain valid driver's license and auto insurance.

  • Bachelor's or some college plus experience. Bachelor's degree from an accredited university preferred. College coursework combined with related experience may be substituted for a degree.

  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in outside sales/ territory management, or in a non-profit organization in a similar capacity. This experience may also count toward satisfying this position's educational requirement.

  • Must possess excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Ability to strategize, plan, analyze and forecast sales and other numerical data.

  • Skilled in written and oral communications, consultation, and comprehensive planning.

  • Proven ability to sell and/ or recruit, train and counsel volunteers to achieve goals and objectives.

  • Must have at least basic knowledge and skill with Google Workspace for word processing, email, presentations, and spreadsheets.

  • Must be at least 21 years old.

  • Full-time employees receive 8 paid holidays per year including: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. In addition, full-time employees also receive paid time off for the regularly scheduled work days between December 26th and January 1st.
