The Quality Control Technician helps perform testing and/or auditing to ensure Perfetti Van Melle products are manufactured and shipped according to company specifications. This role assists with problem solving related to product quality, identifies areas for improvement, and supports the implementation of effective solutions. The Quality Control Technician will follow procedures and requirements to ensure Food Safety, Quality and GMP guidelines are followed, and works closely with cross functional teams to support the continued success of the business.
What you will do:
Monitor and collect qualitative/quantitative data for all products to ensure that products meet specifications. Input analytical data into the computerized lab management system. Maintain a clean / safe work environment. Maintain and calibrate test equipment as scheduled. Follow Lab Standard operating procedures and methods.
Troubleshoot manufacturing issues: including risk assessments, deviations, retesting, rejections of raw materials and finished goods.
Monitor and approve production equipment sanitation, start up and performance. Monitor environment of plant using test equipment and procedures. Monitor production lines and operator checks routinely throughout production auditing. Monitor plant GMPs and Quality and Food Safety programs by completion of assigned audits and support of corrective actions.
Support technical communication of information in shift team meetings and with cross-functional shift team members as assigned.
Investigate, test, and collect data to improve a process or improve product/product packaging on a regular basis.
Support technical, quality and food safety, continuous improvement, cost reduction and R&D projects as assigned.
Qualifications
What we need from you:
High School diploma or equivalent required, Undergraduate degree preferred.
1 or more years of relevant work experience (preferably a Quality role in a food manufacturing facility).
Effective written and oral communication skills, ability to communicate across all levels of the organization.
Working knowledge and use of computers is essential to this role. Intermediate level in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point applications.
Knowledge of statistical process control techniques and their application to process control and continuous improvements.
Ability to perform routine in-process production testing and testing of raw materials and packaging. Able to prepare samples for testing.
Sound decision making, analytical and organizational skills.
Knowledge of good laboratory practices, techniques and testing/sampling methods.
Ability to effective plan and prioritize work tasks, excellent time management skills.
Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to manage difficult and challenging situations.
Ability to be flexible with extended work hours.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and present and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Understanding of how to work in a safe and responsible manner, exercising caution to avoid accidents, prevent injury to people, or damage to equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Must be able to wear hearing protection in designated areas.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision and Peripheral vision.
