The Challenge
We are looking for a Roadway Design Engineer II to join our Roadway Design Development & Support team that produces and reviews roadway design plans, lighting and electrical plans, and provides our technical expertise.
In this role, you will:
- Research local, state, and national roadway design guidance and practices.
- Analyze research; comparing it to NCDOT design guidance and practices, and develop technical reports to convey research findings.
- Help in investigations of roadway design inquiries from internal and external customers and generate timely responses.
- Coordinate with Roadway Design staff, other technical disciplines, Divisions, and private engineering firms as a part of ongoing maintenance of roadway design guidance, such as the Roadway Design Manual.
- Assist in the development of roadway design guidance and best practice training materials.
- Develop roadway design plans and calculate quantities.
What You Bring
- Civil engineering knowledge, especially relating to highway design, AASHTO guidance, NCDOT Roadway Design Manual, NCDOT Standard Drawings and Specifications, and NCDOT policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of Bentley highway design software and workspaces (MicroStation, GeoPak, Corridor Modeling, and OpenRoads Designer (ORD)).
- Experience producing/reviewing engineer design plans and details to determine compliance and compatibility with construction/engineering principles and maintenance standards, codes, designs, and statutes.
- Demonstrated ability performing research and coordinating with multidisciplinary staff on highway design, and effectively communicating technical information in a clear, concise, and organized manner.
- Demonstrated ability facilitating meetings, establishing, and tracking task and deliverables progress to ensure timely completion.
Note
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Education & Experience
- Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
