The Challenge
We are hiring a Senior Assistant Resident Engineer to join our McLeansville Construction team.
 
In this role, you will:
  • Manage administration of highway construction contracts and supervise contract construction work, establishment of engineering controls for the contractor, and inspection of the construction work.
  • Manage contract administration on all types of construction projects, including Central and Division led contracts.
  • Prepare monthly and final estimates, and required recordkeeping throughout the contract construction project lifecycle.
 
What You Bring
  • Proficiency in plan reading, highway engineering calculations, and familiarity of survey instrument operations.
  • Contract administration knowledge to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with NCDOT specifications, standard drawings, and policies.
  • Experience making recommendations and decisions for simple or complex projects.
  • Experience supervising the work of others, including supervision of Construction Engineering Inspection staff to meet NCDOT goals.
  • Customer service experience solving problems involving explaining engineering concepts to customer groups.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and directing multiple work crews.
  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering and construction methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate, establish, and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, contractors, and the public.
  • Ability to make field engineering decisions.
  • Able to work effectively in extreme weather and terrain conditions.
  • Safety shoes.
 
Notes
  • Night and weekend work may be required.
  • We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
 
Education & Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in engineering, and
  • 3+ years of relevant experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
