Job Description

Responsibilities This position lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) that can be used to predict public health crisis and groundbreaking digitally-based social media interventions that can be used to solve them. The position will be in writing for the UC Institute for Prediction Technology (UCIPT), an organization across different UC campuses and based at UCLA in the Department of Family Medicine. The UCIPT bridges together researchers across University of California campuses to study how social data from social media, wearable devices, and online technologies can be used to predict real-world events in areas like health and medicine, politics, crime, education, and finance. The Staff Research Writer will develop advertisements, blog posts and other materials for the dissemination of information regarding or related to the UCIPT. S/he will edit manuscripts and assist with submission to journals and work closely with study teams to develop and write up operations manuals. Additionally, s/he will assist with preparation of regulatory and other grant-related documents, as well as additional minor administrative duties. Qualifications Ability to confidently and independently write briefs that will convey our research to local clinics and organizations. Scientific & academic writing experience. Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the use of social media platforms. Knowledge in web design and familiarity with web building tools, such as WordPress, HTML, PHP, JavaScript and/or CSS. Ability to convey scientific & technical concepts in lay terms, such that the general reader can appreciate impact of research studies. Ability to communicate with others about sensitive behavioral issues, including drug use and high-risk sexual behaviors. Skill in speaking and writing to persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds. Demonstrated knowledge of personal computers, relevant software programs, and web management. College degree and at least 2 years' relevant experience, preferred. Graduate degree in technical/scientific writing, a plus. Bilingual English/Spanish, a plus.
