POSITION OBJECTIVE This position is responsible for assisting the Assistant Chief Engineer - Communications in operating and maintaining Metro-North's security network infrastructure. RESPONSIBILITIES Provide network design, system provisioning and modifications to Metro-North security network, including routers, switches, firewalls and servers. Provide support necessary to implement upgrades, replacements and modifications to the Metro-North security network. Perform security network monitoring, configuration management and backup. Design, install and troubleshoot network equipment and/or software on Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN). Provide engineering expertise and recommendations regarding appropriate equipment. Assist in the establishment of standards, procedures and training necessary for successful application and network deployment. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Strong working knowledge of Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN) technologies and routing protocols. Strong network troubleshooting experience. Strong knowledge and experience in network integration. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and/or comparable computer PC applications. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with virtualization technology. Experience with Linux and Windows system administration. Familiarity with network management software, tools and protocols. Strong analytical skills to analyze new and existing products, equipment and /or procedures. Must be able to recommend improvements or replacements to better support security network. Must be able to work in a high-profile/high-pressure environment. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with internal departments and outside agencies. Must be able to implement and participate in Metro-North Railroad Safety Program. Must be able to work outside of normal working hours as needed to support maintenance and construction projects. Must be available to work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week as required. Must have a CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification. Must possess a valid driver's license. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Familiarity with Metro-North policies and procedures. REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and/or related field. Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in all aspects of digital data communications. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in network design, installations and maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of Local Area Networks (LANs) and associated equipment. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in managing a professional staff/diverse workforce and/or projects. OTHER INFORMATION This is a safety sensitive position and subject to toxicology testing. As an employee of Metro-North Railroad you may be required to complete a New York State financial disclosure statement, if you earn more than $95,534.00 or if you hold a position designated as a policy maker. Effective September 2017, all full-time non-agreement personnel other than those directly involved with the movement of trains or delivery of service, or assigned to other emergency response teams, are required to serve in the Station Terminal Auxiliary Response (STAR) program requiring Terminal coverage for Grand Central Terminal (GCT) from 4:30 PM-7:30 PM one week per year or responding to Station STAR duty during a service disruption, system-wide at various hours including nights and weekends. This program is designed to improve Metro-North's ability to provide customer service during emergencies that impact service delivery or other service disruptions that require staff to provide directions and information to MNR customers at GCT or outlying stations. Please note, hours worked during your participation week are subject to change.SELECTION CRITERIA Due to the competitive nature of the selection process, not all qualified candidates who meet the minimum requirements for the position are guaranteed an interview. POSITION OBJECTIVE The purpose of this position is to conceptualize, design, and implement optimal Equipment Plans to support MNR schedule based on ridership data, equipment availability, and labor rules. Support the collection and analysis of data related to staffing levels, operational requirements, customer needs, and infrastructure maintenance. Input corresponding information into MNR scheduling system. RESPONSIBILITIES Equipment Plan concept, design and implementation. Produce equipment plan(s) to support draft timetable. Propose Track assignments. Input equipment assignment data to equipment database (currently TT6/TT75). Support production of special schedules for holidays, large events, and service disruptions. Ensure all schedules promote safety and efficiency of operations. Assist in employee and public timetable production. Assist in periodic analysis of staffing levels and revenue collection goal. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Working knowledge of MNR equipment scheduling system (TT6/TT75) or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire. Knowledge of ridership demand analysis and service planning concepts or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including presentation skills. Strong quantitative and analytical skills. Strong organizational skills needed to manage complex databases. Strong ability to exercise a level of independent judgment and decision making. Ability to work well under pressure, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize workload while adhering to deadlines. Effective interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of management and external contacts. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and/or comparable system applications. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Familiarity with transportation operations. REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE Bachelor's Degree in Transportation Management, Logistics, or Planning. In lieu of degree, an additional four (4) years of experience in train scheduling, train dispatching, transportation operations, or transportation planning may also be considered. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an analytical function. In lieu of experience, a Master's Degree in Transportation Management, Logistics, or Planning with internship experience in a related area may also be considered. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Demonstrated experience with development, analysis, or management of a geographic information system (GIS). OTHER INFORMATION This is a safety sensitive position and subject to toxicology testing. As an employee of Metro-North Railroad you may be required to complete a New York State financial disclosure statement, if you earn more than $95,534.00 or if you hold a position designated as a policy maker. Effective September 2017, all full-time non-agreement personnel other than those directly involved with the movement of trains or delivery of service, or assigned to other emergency response teams, are required to serve in the Station Terminal Auxiliary Response (STAR) program requiring Terminal coverage for Grand Central Terminal (GCT) from 4:30 PM-7:30 PM one week per year or responding to Station STAR duty during a service disruption, system-wide at various hours including nights and weekends. This program is designed to improve Metro-North's ability to provide customer service during emergencies that impact service delivery or other service disruptions that require staff to provide directions and information to MNR customers at GCT or outlying stations. Please note, hours worked during your participation week are subject to change. SELECTION CRITERIA Due to the competitive nature of the selection process, not all qualified candidates who meet the minimum requirements for the position are guaranteed an interview.
