JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for maintaining the quality and adequacy of nursing practice and care given to residents by coordinating nursing and training programs, recognizing and assisting in solving administrative and supervisory problems within the facility. Promotes a culture of safety awareness. Support administrative operation by performing various duties to insure overall compliance with nursing procedures and company policies. Follow procedures, State and Federal regulations, Joint Commission, OSHA, Medicare/Medicaid Guidelines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Organizes and directs the Nursing Department by establishing objectives and standards for achieving those objectives. Ensures department meets all local, state and federal agency regulations.Develops nursing procedures that ensures administrative policies established by the governing authority and administration are put into effect. Ensures that all nursing employees adhere to corporate policies, procedures and regulatory guidelines.Plans, organizes and directs the effective administration of each nursing unit.Establishes policies and procedures that govern the administration, control and safe use of medications with the direction of the pharmacist and the Pharmacy Committee.Establishes appropriate and adequate staffing patterns that will meet the needs of the residents and established state regulations. Determines the optimum number of employees needed to accomplish stated goals, objectives and meet regulatory guidelines.Directs and delegates the management of professional and ancillary nursing staff.Coordinates the activities of the nursing units with those of the other departments, (programs and activities) promoting and maintaining harmonious relationships among nursing personnel, the medical staff, residents volunteers, families and visitors.Provides nursing input into the formulation of the admission and discharge policy, the disaster plan, fire and safety and the emergency service.Assures that nursing units are well stocked with nursing and patient care supplies.Maintains required records, reports and statistics. Reviews and revises standards, objectives, policies and procedures as needed to meet current practice and regulatory guidelines.Consults with the administrator, physician and consultants as required to advise and inform on nursing services and patient care. Attends department head meetings as required. Attends and actively participates in the Safety Committee, Quality Improvement Committee and Ethics Cittee.Is in charge of the facility in the absence of the administrator and/or the assistant administrator. Is on call to the facility when supervisory problems regarding nursing arise and in cases of emergency. Takes administrative call on a routine basis.Committed to working with residents and families to develop and implement strategies that promote person-centered care.Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in obtaining bids from various vendors. Makes responsible decisions with respect to vendor, product, price and quality.Meets budgetary goals on a monthly basis providing data to explain expenditures.Screens and interviews applicants, making decisions on nursing personnel to be hired. Educates department heads to perform part of this function and delegates accordingly.Directs and implements orientation and in-service programs for all nursing personnel and for the other departments as requested. May delegate this responsibility as necessary.Meets regularly with management personnel and staff to implement facility policies and procedures. Plans and conducts regular meetings with staff to promote initiative and solve problems.Assigns duties to the professional, licensed practical and ancillary nursing staff, delegating such duties when appropriate.Supervises and evaluates the work performance of all nursing personnel assisted by supervisory staff.Disciplines personnel when necessary, following established facility procedure and guidelines. Recommends discharge of personnel when warranted and may carry out such procedure under the direction of the administrator.Assures that all employees are aware of proper and appropriate safety practices; also ensures that supervisors follow through on any situation which is reported to be unsafe as well as any problem reported that might contribute to hazardous work situations or environments.Assures that standards, objectives, policies and procedures relating to nursing care are reflective of a high quality delivery of service. Assures that an effective quality assurance program is implemented within the department.Consults with the admission staff on all new admissions and determines their admission status based upon physical and psychosocial evaluation.Assures that a full health assessment and history is completed upon admission to provide baseline data for planning and providing care.Works closely with the Medical Director, attending physicians and consultants to formulate effective patient care policies. Is responsible for the execution of these policies in the absence of the physician.Conducts daily nursing rounds. Provides consultation and direction in the formulation of the nursing care plan. Sees that the resident's needs are met; including the provisions of spiritual, psychological and social needs. Ensures that the physical environment is safe and free from hazards.Assists supervisory, professional and ancillary nursing personnel in utilizing the nursing process in the delivery of care.Promotes the facility's involvement in the community through outreach and maintains good community relations.Responsible to respond to requests for special \"project work\" as requested, completing assignments in a timely fashion.Actively supports Wingate's commitment to providing \"5 Star\" service on all quality objectives, with an emphasis on continual improvement.Adheres to all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.Reports to the appropriate managers any known or suspected violations of policy and procedures, regulations or standards of conduct.Performs additional duties as assigned.POSITION REQUIREMENTS:RN License in the state required. -- BSN preferredAt least five (5) years experience in a supervisory capacity in a hospital or long-term care facility, including geriatric and/or psychiatric nursing. Must have demonstrated a mastery of good clinical nursing skills.Training in rehabilitation and restorative nursing care.Ability to incorporate all aspects of nursing in total resident care plan.Ability to organize, plan and supervise the nursing service departments.Must have a capacity to grasp new theories and principles and implement them.Must be accountable 24 hours a day. Reporting to this position are Unit Managers shift supervisors, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Nurse Assistants, Unit Clerk and Medical Records Clerk.Assistant Director of Nursing Services shares, with the Director of Nursing Services, the responsibility for selecting Nursing Department staff, completing employee appraisals, education and resolving problems involving employee disciplinary action.Assistant Director of Nursing Services is responsible for conducting wound records weekly on each unit with the wound team (N.P., U.M.) and documenting.Assistant Director of Nursing Services may confer with residents' physicians on an occasional basis to clarify medical orders and direct care.In the absence of the Director of Nursing Services, the Assistant Director of Nursing Services performs the duties of the Director.Day-to-day Duties:Oversees the clinical operations (i.e. infection control, monitoring resident conditions, psychopharmacological drugs, restraint use, foley catheters, pressure ulcers, etc.) of the Nursing Department.Assists the Director of Nursing Services in the design, implementation and evaluation of nursing systems that ensure consistent delivery of care and maintains and promotes resident rights.Conducts nursing rounds on all units several times a day, including the beginning and end of shift.Provides reports/recommendations as needed/required for the Director of Nursing Services concerning the operations of Nursing Services.Assists the Director of Nursing Services in the development, implementation and evaluation of facility policies, procedures and guidelines on an annual and on-going basis (i.e. nursing, pharmacy, lab, physicians, medical records, employee health records of employees and contracted employees etc.)Assists the Director of Nursing Services in ensuring that residents are free from abuse, mistreatment and neglect.Assists the Director of Nursing Services in ensuring nursing staff awareness and compliance with Federal and State regulations relative to resident rights issues.Monitoring all infections in the facility and providing education to all staff members regarding infections.Assists in Nursing Administrative calls.Qualifications:Graduation from an Accredited School of Nursing with a minimum of an associate's degreeLicensed as a Registered Nurse in State of New Jersey3-5 years of responsible nursing experience, preferably in a long-term care facilityBasic computer skillsExcellent communication and management skills (or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience), respect for principles of resident rights, confidentiality.Apply online!
