ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Interacts directly with patients and families to obtain information for patient records, explain procedures, allay fears, and elicit cooperation. Utilizes standard procedures for the maintenance of positive patient identification and records appropriate collection information in accordance with established protocol. Responsible for securing precertification and/or preauthorization on any and all procedures as required. Relates results to patients in person according to physician instructions. Enters data into computer system as per protocol. Faxes and handles prescriptions as instructed by physician. Takes telephone messages and provides feedback and answers to patient/physician/pharmacy and charts them in EMR appropriately. Gives instructions to patients as directed by physician. Schedules new and follow-up appointments based on established protocol. Performs vital signs and EKGs, assessments and therapies as appropriate. Assists in clinic as assigned or needed. Documents all correspondence in EMR. Completes lab slips and other forms as instructed by physician. Assists in ancillary department as assigned or needed. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned or needed. Complies with OSHA safety and health rules. Uses computer, copier, scanner, and fax machine. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED: This position requires general knowledge of the nursing practices, methods, tools, and equipment used in a day to day hospital practice, including but not limited to the following: General knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions associated with clinical work. Ability to perform standard EKG procedures and techniques. Knowledge of standard nursing tasks and procedures. Ability to accurately complete and maintain EMR documents and records. Ability to understand and follow specific clinical protocol, specifications, and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of relative clinical and patient care regulations, policies, procedures, and standards. Ability to work in a team environment with a minimum amount of supervision. Critical thinking skills MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High school diploma. Completion of approved nursing program. Current Texas RN license. At least one year experience in a clinical setting preferred but not required. Current BLS, will also need ACLS and PALS per department requirements. LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATION: Current Texas RN license required. Current BLS and/or ACLS preferred ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to read, write and communicate in English. Have cognitive skills for math, reading, computer skills, and communications skills to deal well with the public (customers) as well as peers. Work in an interior medical/clinical environment.
