PURPOSE OF THE JOB The Operator II position is a cross-functional role responsible for the control room, maintaining the proper operation of the furnace, melt stream, spinners, and is the process expert for converting molten rocks into mineral wool products and in the line control area, the area which cures product to deliver to packaging equipment. The operator sets-up and operates the wool machine and assures uninterrupted flow of material from the oven to packing. Reports to : The Operator II is an hourly position reporting to the shift Lead and Production Shift Supervisor. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Follows all Owens Corning safety policies and procedures. Know plant EPA goals or requirements and insures goals are met on a daily basis. Maintain good quality products by insuring consistent operation of furnace and afterburner system. Performs/assist in Cupola furnace preparation, start-up, shutdowns, and clean outs. Inspects the furnace and controls, completes the shift change inspection check list then reports identified irregularities. Monitors and adjusts many process controls to ensure quality transition between raw materials and finished goods. Regularly monitors, verifies, and adjust the furnace power and temperature. Maintains control of cupola parameters; cooling and charge flow rates, cooling, melt, and gas temperatures. Reports any problems to appropriate personnel and carries out emergency procedures. Maintains condition of melt stream flow onto spinner wheels and takes immediate action in case of defects or deviations of specified operating parameters; Maintains melt capacity and line production capacity. Pays special attention to the cooling system, blast, lubrication, temperatures in the melting process and rotating parts of machinery. Assists or performs spinner replacement operations, discharging the material from the cupola and preparing the furnace for operation. Uses fork lift and other related material handling machinery Responsible for furnace LTT process Ensures clean and orderly housekeeping in all assigned areas at all times Works closely together with technical staff in monitoring the process of melting, fiberization and cleaning and submitting proposals for process improvements. Performs other tasks and duties within scope as necessary and in agreement with the lead.
